Recently I have been working on a few different designs of skirts and chassis protection systems. The spur gear on the NMT is vulnerable to damage via the spur gear opening on the chassis. I have decided to incorporate a spur cover into the skidplates of the bumpers. This plastic strip runs the length of the chassis. When used in conjunction with the skirts the whole chassis will be protected by a resilient plastic sheet.
The plastic undercarriage is simply held on with 3-M automotive grade adheasive tape (to prevent me from drilling my chassis full of holes!). I will be rigourously testing its ability to stay on while off-roading. The prototype undercarriage is comprised of 5 interlocking pieces of polypropylene. The NMT was designed to "bottom out" with the plastic being only 2.5 to 3mm thick there is no effect on ground clearance. I plan on testing this prototype aggressively this summer. Eventually I would like to make the undercarriage available to all NMT owners looking for added protection for their trucks.
